Two people were killed in a ‘gunfight’ near Police Line in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

The deceased are Nurul Alam, 40, a resident in Badshaghona area of the city’s outskirts and Kalu Mia, 28, reportedly a Myanmar citizen.

Police recovered the bodies from the spot and sent them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Police claimed the dead were members of a criminal group.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar police officer-in-charge Md Aslam Hossain told Prothom Alo that the gunfight ensued between the members of Rocky and Hasnat groups over establishing supremacy in the locality.

The miscreants took shelter in the hilly area as police went to the spot, the OC added.

The police official also said policemen recovered three shotguns and two masks from the spot. Nurul Alam was sued in 18 cases with Cox’s Bazar model police station, he added.

Mohammad Murad, a physician at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said they had died before they were taken to the hospital. Bullet wounds were found in their bodies, the doctor added.
