Handball player, friend killed in road crash

A national handball team player and his friend were killed in a road accident in Kushtia's Daulatpur upazila on Friday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased were Sohanur Rahman Sohan, son of Kalu Mondal, the goalkeeper of Bangladesh national handball team, and his friend Solaiman Hossain Joy, son of Shaidul Islam.

Both were residents of Bahirmadi village of the upazila.

Family members said Sohan had returned home to spend his vacation. He was going to Daulatpur on a motorcycle with Joy in the morning.

The accident took place when a three-wheeler collided with their motorcycle at Hosnebad Bazar around 11:00am, leaving them critically injured.

Later, they were taken to Kushtia General Hospital where the physicians pronounced Sohan dead, said Tapas Kumar Sarker, resident medical officer (RMO) of the hospital.

The physicians recommended shifting Joy to Dhaka for better treatment but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
