Two students of Dhaka University have been sent to jail allegedly for taking extortion from a truck in the capital's High Court area.
The chief metropolitan magistrate court sent them to jail on Saturday.
The accused -- Al Amin and Jubayer Ahmed -- are the resident students of Muktijuddha Ziaur Rahman Hall.
Both of them are the activists of ruling Awami League's student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League. But they do not hold any posts in BCL, said officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police station Abul Hasan.

The students demanded extortion from driver of a sand laden truck after its tyre burst at High Court area early Saturday, said the OC quoting the case statement.

They also beat up the driver while he refused to pay the money.

At one stage, they snatched the driver’s mobile phone and forcibly transferred Tk 1,950 from his Rocket money transfer app.

A patrol team of police detained them from the spot, the OC said.

Later, the truck driver's assistant Sohel Rana filed a case with Shahbagh police station accusing the students.

Proctor of Dhaka University Golam Rabbani said the university authorities will take actions against the two students as per law once allegation against them is proved.
