Applauding Bangladesh’s generosity and leadership role in dealing with the Rohingya crisis, special envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Angelina Jolie has committed to continue her advocacy for the humanitarian response for Rohingyas, reports BSS.

The Hollywood star came up with the commitment in a recent letter written to Bangladesh’s prime minister Sheikh Hasina, a foreign ministry press release said.

She highly lauded the generosity of Bangladesh and the leadership it has demonstrated in the Rohingya crisis.

Expressing gratefulness to the people of Bangladesh for all kinds of support, Jolie appreciated the country for giving shelter to the forcibly displaced Rohingyas and ensuring their safety and security.

The UNHCR special envoy mentioned that the UN refugee agency would continue its efforts to engage Myanmar to create suitable conditions for the sustainable return of Rohingya people.

She hoped that Bangladesh’s initiatives for the Rohingyas would help get better funding for the 2020 Joint Response Plan for the Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis, which would be launched in March 2020.

Angelina Jolie visited Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar in February 2019.
