Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) and Prothom Alo, the country's leading national Bangla daily, have formally launched ‘Voluntary Award 2020’.

The inaugural event was held on Sunday at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (World Literature Center). Fifty organisations participated in the programme.

VSO, a non-profit international development organisation, and Prothom Alo will jointly award volunteers who come forward to help people during any national crisis and contribute building the nation.

Addressing the programme, VSO country director Forkhan Uddin said many people of the country are working with various voluntary initiatives without any personal gain.

“We should inform the people about their initiatives,” Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman said, speaking at the event. Once acknowledged, the good initiatives will inspire more youth of the country to take up further good work.

Chief of Prothom Alo’s youth programmes Munir Hasan said the ‘Voluntary Award 2020’ will be given to volunteers and voluntary organisations for their contribution in the fields of agriculture, environment and climate, education, sports and culture, health, science and information technology, skilled development and disaster management in the year of 2019.

The organisers said those who are below 35 will be nominated for the award. Voluntary organisation will also have chance to get the recognition.
