Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia has not agreed to take advanced treatment, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University authorities told the High Court.

The medical report, submitted to the HC, said the BNP chief has not agreed to take advanced treatment suggested by the medical board that has been formed for her better treatment.

The medical report was read out at the bench of justice Obaidul Hasan and justice KM Zahirul Hoque on Thursday.

The two-member bench of the High Court also said it will pass the order on the bail of Khaleda Zia this afternoon.

Joynul Abedin moved for the BNP chief at the court while attorney general Mahbubey Alam stood for the state. Khurshid Alam Khan was the lawyer of Anti-Corruption Commission.

The High Court on Sunday asked the BSMMU authorities to submit a report on the health condition of Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital since April, 2019.

The medical report said Khaleda Zia has been suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and arthritis. She has not agreed to take advanced treatment for arthritis. Physicians could not conduct the necessary medical tests, the report added.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Joynul Abedin told the court that he wanted to talk to her to know why she has not agreed to take the treatment.

He pleaded for time in the court.

One of the justices said giving consent to begin advanced treatment is a matter of Khaleda Zia’s personal choice and fixed 2:00pm as the time for giving order on bail plea.

Khaleda Zia has been in jail since 8 February 2018.
