BCL general secretary wounded in factional clash

The general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Lekhak Bhattacharjee sustained head injuries while approaching to pacify the leaders and activists of two groups—Dhaka College unit BCL and Kabi Jasimuddin hall of Dhaka University (DU) unit BCL—were in fighting in front of Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture on DU campus.

Later, Lekhak was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for primary treatment. His head needed stitches, confirmed several BCL leaders.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon while the BCL, student wing of ruling Awami-League (AL), was celebrating their founding anniversary.

BCL sources said leaders and activists of the two groups engaged in altercation over standing in front of the podium set up at the premises of Aparajeyo Bangla. Lekhak Bhattacharjee came down the stage to pacify the tension. At one stage of argument, both groups began hurling brick chips at each other leaving Lekhak and 10 others injured.

BCL central joint secretary Abdul Jabbar told Prothom Alo that Lekhak sustained minor injury. He is well now.
