DUCSU vice president and newly-launched political party Gana Odhikar Parishad member secretary Nurul Haque on Wednesday made a call to take to the streets against the ruling Awami League.

"BNP will join, if we can take our movement forward," said Nurul while addressing a protest rally at the National Press Club on Wednesday. National Democratic Party (NDP) organised it demanding the release of political leaders including Khaleda Zia.

He said, "We have to take to the streets. We should not wait for any party. We feel BNP is a big party and we need their support. If BNP could do alone, they could do in the last 12 years. We have to launch movement and BNP will join."

Terming the US sanctions on Bangladesh RAB officials appropriate 'measures', Nurul said such sanction should have been imposed several years back.

About the appointments of lobbyist firms, he said Awami League engaged prime minister Sheikh Hasina's son and ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy and appointed lobbyist firm in November 2004. BNP appointed lobbyist in 2007.

He said BNP cannot present the information and proof of harassments to the international community.

Nurul Haque said, "When we hold meetings with the international community, they said BNP cannot present information and evidence that the harassment and torture have been inflicted on them.

BNP vice chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed spoke as the chief guest while NDP chairman AK Abu Taher presided over it.
