BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir hopes that democracy will be restored in the country in New Year 2022.

He came up with this optimism on Saturday morning in an event marking the 43rd birth anniversary of BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

The BNP secretary general conveys the message of New Year greetings to the people on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman and JCD.

"I hope people will be freed, democracy to be freed and Khaldea Zia to get released in the New Year. We, of course, will able to establish a people's government in the country," Mirza Fakhrul said.

The BNP leader said, "Khaleda Zia is struggling between life and death. After paying homage to the grave of Ziaur Rahman, leaders and activists of JCD have vowed today to accelerate the current movement to regain democracy to the country, free Khaleda Zia and ensure her advanced treatment abroad."

Replying to a question, he alleged that the sentence Khaleda Zia is facing is completely politically motivated. Currently, the former prime minister, who has been convicted in two graft cases, is out of jail on an executive order.

Terming the president's dialogue to form the election commission meaningless, Mirza Fakhrul said, "The current political crisis is neither the crisis of forming EC nor of formulating a law. What type of government will be in office during the election is the main crisis."
