Information and broadcasting minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said BNP is now lying extremely to defend them from the countrywide criticism due to their (BNP) writings of anti-state conspiracy letters to foreigners, reports BSS.

“BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a press conference on Tuesday and tried to defend them from the countrywide criticisms over the letters written by BNP to foreigners for stopping aid to Bangladesh and stop export trade, tarnish the country’s image and appoint lobbyists. At the press conference, he (Fakhrul) finally admitted that he had written letters to foreigners, but he denied the allegations of telling to stop assistance,” he said.

The minister stated these while exchanging views with reporters at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

In the meeting, he presented some documents of agreements between BNP and lobby firms using BNP’s Dhaka office address and some letters signed by BNP’s secretary general to different departments of the United States.

Hasan showed letters signed by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on BNP’s official pad to Chairwoman on House Committee on Appropriations and Chairwoman on subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programmes on 17 April 2019, and Chairman of Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Chairman of Senate Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia and Counterterrorism on 24 April 2019.

The minister read out the last paragraph and said BNP urged the US to stop aid.

He said BNP used the address of their party office- 28 VIP Road, Nayapaltan, Dhaka, Bangladesh- in some agreements with lobby firms and Abdus Sattar signed those (agreements) on behalf of BNP. They did same agreements by using address of abroad where Ziaul Islam signed, he added.

“How Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir would deny the documents?” he posed a question. The documents are prove records of BNP leaders’ lies and their conspiracies against the country, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

The minister said their whole politics based on lies. For this, they did the press conference to defend themselves from the countrywide criticisms, he said, adding that the political party which carried out such activities has no rights to do politic in the country.

He said Bangladesh has been elected as the chair of the Peace Building Commission of the United States despite BNP’s continues lies against the country and conspiracy.

Besides, the US Congress member and chairman of Foreign Affairs House Committee Gregory W Meeks said that the US government would work continuously with the Bangladesh government.

The minister urged the BNP leaders to stop the anti-state propaganda and conspiracy.

Replying to a query over Khaleda Zia’s health issuer, Hasan said, in fact, BNP becomes deeply hurt and disappointed that Khaleda Zia returned home after getting well as there is no scope of creating confusion among the people in this regard.
