Opposition in parliament Jatiya Party (JP) on Friday appreciated the government for restricted or conditional reopening of offices and transport services from 31 May easing a nationwide shutdown, reports news agency BSS.

The government, however, dubbed the shut down as general holiday.

In a statement, JP chairman and deputy leader of the opposition in parliament GM Quader expressed satisfaction over the decision and thanked the government.

“We’ve been urging the government to make the nationwide shutdown from the beginning (of the outbreak of COVID-19). We always say that along with the lives, livelihood also should be considered,” he said in the statement.

Decision should be taken considering the plights of destitute and day labourers, Quader said, adding that today’s circular of the government was a demand of time to keep the wheel of the country’s economy moving (ahead).

The JP chairman expressed gratitude to prime minister Sheikh Hasina for taking the right decision.
