The cabinet division on Friday issued emergency directives to curb the spread of novel coronavirus including the shutting down of educational institutions for the next two weeks.

The directives said all schools and colleges will remain shut from 21 January to 6 February.

Earlier in the day, health minister Zahid Maleque at a programme of the health directorate (DGHS) said the government has decided to shut down the educational institutions for the next two weeks due to the spike in novel coronavirus infections.

A fresh decision will be taken after observing the Covid situation for two weeks, he added.

Earlier, the government shut all types of educational institutions in the country from 17 March 2020. The institutions were opened after 18 months as the situation improved at the end of 2021.
