Fazle Kabir reappointed BB governor for next 2 years

The government has reappointed Fazle Kabir as the governor of Bangladesh Bank for the next two years until 3 July, 2022, reports UNB.

Financial Institutions Division of the finance ministry on Wednesday issued a circular with immediate effect in this regard notifying the appointment of Fazle Kabir.

It said said the appointment was made as per the Bangladesh Bank Act (amendment) 2020.

The government brought amendment to the existing Bangladesh Bank Order 1972 raising the age limit of the governor of the central bank to 67 and reappointed Fazle Kabir as governor.

The appointment of Fazle Kabir will remain effective until 3 July, 2022 subject to fulfilment of age limit of 67 of the governor.

Fazle Kabir went on retirement after completion of his contractual appointment on 3 July with the fulfilment of age limit of 65 years.

But the government brought amendment to the existing Bangladesh Bank Order 1972 raising the age limit of the governor of the central bank to 67 and reappointed Fazle Kabir as governor.
