Gold prices in country hit all-time high

In just a matter of a month, the gold prices of the country are going up by almost Tk 3000 a bhori (11.66 grams approx). That means a bhori of 22 carat gold jewellry will cost around Tk 72,786. This is the highest price gold has reached in the country’s history. This price will come into effect on Friday.

Bangladesh Jewellers Association announced the increase in gold prices on Thursday through a press release. It stated that the price of gold was increasing every day in the international market. At the same time, gold prices were increasing in the country’s bullion market. The association then took the decision to accordingly raise the price of gold in the market.

Previously, on 23 June, the price of gold had been raised by Tk 5,825. On Friday it will be raised further by another Tk 2,916. In a matter of a month the price of gold is increasing by Tk 8,741. Those involved in the jewellery business say that the price of gold is increasing in leaps and bounds and gold jewelry is going out of reach for the middle class.

The Jewellers Association has decided that the new price will come into effect from Friday. That will put the price of gold jewelry at Tk 72,783 per bhori of 22 carat gold. For 21 carat gold, the cost will be Tk 69,634, for 18 carat gold Tk 60,886 and for ‘sonaton’ (traditional) gold, the price will be Tk 50,560.
