UGC to organise conference on 4th industrial revolution 10 Dec

A two-day international conference on 4th industrial revolution titled ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution and Beyond’ will begin on 10 December at Bangabandhu International Conference centre in the capital, reports BSS.

Marking the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of the country, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is organising the conference.

President M Abdul Hamid is expected to address the inaugural ceremony virtually as the chief guest while prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to address the closing ceremony virtually on 11 December.

The information was revealed at a press conference held on Tuesday at UGC auditorium, with UGC chairman professor Kazi Shahidullah in the chair, said a press release.

Education minister Dipu Moni, deputy minister for education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and secretary of the department of secondary and higher education Md. Mahbub Hossain will address the programme as the guests of honour, with UGC chairman Kazi Shahidullah in the chair.

Three Nobel laureates -- Oliver Hart, Konstantin Novoselov, Takaaki Kajita -- along with researchers, academicians and technologists including seven world-class scientists will take part in the conference.

A total of six keynote papers will be presented at the conference while 100 research papers will be presented in 21 technical sessions.

Multiple trilateral agreements will be signed among different industries, UGC and universities to conduct joint collaborative activities.

A network of communication between national and international level academics and researchers would be created through this conference, UGC chairman Kazi Shahidullah said, adding “At the same time, a bridge of cooperation will be built between the industrial and commercial institutions and the institutions of higher education”.

Besides, ‘Mujib Centennial Idea Competition-2021’ and “Mujib Borsho Art Exhibition-2021” will also be organised to spread the local innovations worldwide.
