Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stocks today witnessed downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities, reports BSS.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 72.74 points or 1.09 per cent to settle at 6,629.88. Two other indices also closed lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 23.95 points to finish at 2,488.04 and the DSE Shariah Index fell 14.78 points to close at 1,408.87.

The daily trade turnover on the DSE also increased to Taka 8,856.14 million which was Taka 8,017.85 million at the previous session of the week.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 378 issues traded, 300 closed lower, 47 higher and 31 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

SONALIPAPR continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by Beximco, ASIANINS, BSC and Eastern Insurance.

BSC was the day's best performer, posting a gain of 12.35 per cent while EASTRNLUB was the worst loser, losing 15.17 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.
