Bangladesh's telecommunication operator Grameenphone has started to distribute medical-grade professional PPE (protective coverall, KN 95 mask, latex gloves, goggles) to the frontline medical workers in the selected hospitals, said a press statement.

According to the press release on Thursday, Grameenphone, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services, started the 1st phase of PPE distribution, comprising 6000 pcs/units of protective gears like coverall, latex gloves, and goggles each to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.

“During this global pandemic, Bangladesh urgently needs to ensure the safety and protection of our frontline health professionals. Health workers are our first and most important line of defense against the Coronavirus. We are committed to extending our support and will continue to provide our wholehearted support to the government during the crisis,” said Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman.

“Thanks to DGHS for guiding us to import the right product and taking us through a vigorous quality check to make sure our health professionals can confidently serve the nation. Today we have started the first phase of distribution and gradually complete the rest,” he added.

DG health professor AK Azad said, “We are facing an unprecedented challenge with the impact of this pandemic and ensuring access to good quality/medical grade PPE, and other safety gears are our top priority.”

“We appreciate the initiative that Grameenphone has taken, and we encourage other entities to come forward as well,” the health DG added.
