Walton joins hands with Microsoft

Bangladesh's electronics giant Walton inked a partnership deal with the world's largest software manufacturer Microsoft for using original Windows software in Walton brand laptops and computers.

Under the deal, the users of Walton laptops and computers will enjoy original Windows operating systems.

Liakat Ali, executive director and computer project in-charge of Walton Group, and Anne Lepissier, Microsoft's gmneral Manager (CDS) for South East Asia region, signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations at a signing ceremony at Bangladesh Computer Council in the capital's Agargaon on Monday.

Post, telecommunications and information technology minister Mustafa Jabbar attended the programme as chief guest while local government division's senior secretary Zafar Ahmed Khan, information and communication technology secretary Subir Kishore Choudhury, posts and telecommunication ministry's additional secretary Saiful Islam, Walton Digi-Tech Industries Ltd chairman SM Rezaul Alam, Walton Group's executive director and chief marketing coordinator Eva Rezwana, managing director of Microsoft Bangladesh Sonia Bashir Kabir were the special guests.

Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, Walton is now not only manufacturing but also exporting laptops and computers, which is the implementation of the dream of establishing Digital Bangladesh of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Walton inked the deal aimed at using original Microsoft Windows Operating System software in its produced ICT devices rather than using pirated softwar, he said adding: "The other organizations could follow Walton."

"Nobody thinks that Bangladeshi organization could manufacture computers and laptops like digital devices and also could provide original software. But Walton has proved it" he noted.

The signing ceremony was attended, among others, by Walton Group's executive directors SM Zahid Hasan and Humayun Kabir, deputy executive director Uday Hakim, operative director Shahjada Selim, first senior additional director Firoj Alam and senior additional director Qazi Zahid Hasan.
