The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has decided to reduce the bandwidth capacity of Grameenphone and Robi as they failed to pay their dues to the government, reports UNB.

Zakir Hossain Khan, senior assistant director (PR) of BTRC, told UNB that 30 per cent bandwidth capacity of GP and 15 per cent of Robi will be reduced as they could not clear their dues despite repeated notices.

Zakir said GP, the country's largest mobile phone operator, has Tk 125.80 billion (Tk 12,579.95 crore) due to the government, including Tk 40.86 billion (Tk 4,085.95 crore) to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Robi has due of Tk 8.67 billion (Tk 867.23 crore) to the government, including Tk 1.97 (Tk 197.21 crore) to the NBR alone, Zakir added.

He said the BTRC would send a letter to International Internet Gateway (IIGW) to implement its decision.
