Chevron in Bangladesh organised tree plantation drives at various locations in Sylhet, says a press release.

Chevron’s superintendents at Jalalabad and Moulvibazar gas plants inaugurated the tree plantation activities.

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury and Chevron employees, among others, attended the events.

According to the press release of Chevron, the events were held in collaboration with the Bangladesh chapter of Chevron’s XYZ Network.

The first such tree plantation drive was held earlier in June to mark World Environment Day.

The press release also said Chevron has been involved in tree plantation drives as part of its ongoing efforts in environmental stewardship since 2005.

Over the past 14 years, over 137,000 timber-yielding, fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings have been planted in different areas near its three gas plants in the North-East of the country, it said.

Chevron also supports a range of corporate social responsibility programmes in education, health and economic development for the communities residing near its areas of operation, the press release added.

Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury thanked Chevron for supporting Sylhet City Corporation’s “Green City, Clean City” initiative

He said Krishnochurra saplings will be planted on the bank of the Surma River, and Radhachurra on the newly-constructed road dividers in major thoroughfares of Sylhet town.
