Under the Bangladesh Bank Refinancing Scheme, clients with accounts of just 10 taka were given loans in a spot loan distribution programme in Cox’s Bazar. 

The Financial Inclusion Department of Bangladesh Bank organised the event with coordination assistance from BRAC Bank. BRAC Bank along with 25 banks in Cox’s Bazar distributed Tk 50 lakh among 100 account holders.
This event was organised to bring the people who live below the poverty line, including the marginalised and landless farmers, into the mainstream economy through the 10 taka account initiative.
The commercial banks in Cox’s Bazar which are in the coordination with Bangladesh Bank for the refinancing scheme, participated in the programme held at BIAM Foundation in Cox’s Bazar on 23 November.
AKM Fazlur Rahman, executive director, Bangladesh Bank, was present as the chief guest. Syed Abdul Momen, head of SME banking, BRAC Bank, Salauddin Hazari, regional head, Chattogram Region, Ahamd Shamsed Sultan Shaibal, branch manager, Cox’s Bazar, BRAC Bank, and other senior officials of the participating banks were present at the conference.
In the programme, BRAC Bank handed over loans each amounting to Tk 50,000 to the customers -- Md. Shamsul Islam, Md Nejam Uddin, Ansar Uddin, Farman Ullah, Khing Ouna and Dalwar Hossain.
