Income tax fair begins Thursday
The 10th edition of the week-long Income Tax Fair begins in the country on Thursday in a bid to create massive awareness among its people on tax as well as to render tax related services, reports BSS.
The fair will continue in all the divisional cities including the capital till 20 November. The fair in the capital would be held on the Officers’ Club premises.
This was revealed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan at a press conference held at the NBR office in the city on Tuesday.
He said the fair would be held in all the district headquarters for four days while for two days in 48 upazilas. Besides, a one-day ‘mobile income tax fair’ will be held at eight growth centers at upazila-level.
The slogan of this edition of the fair is “Sobai Mile Dibo Kor, Desh Hobe Swanirbhor’ while the theme of the fair has been set at “Voluntary participation in paying taxes, implementation of vision is ensured”.
Like the previous years, the taxpayers would get bank booth facilities on the fair premises to submit their tax returns side by side the tax officials would assist them at the designated support centers, the NBR Chairman said, adding, “All income tax related services will be available under one roof while the taxpayers would only need to bring the necessary papers.”
He informed that the fair would facilitate e-TIN registration and submission of income tax returns, realization of taxes, providing assistance in filing up tax returns and necessary arrangements for providing training on tax education.
Mosharraf said a website has been launched highlighting all necessary data related to income tax while mobile banking services has also been introduced to pay taxes.
Answering to a question, he suggested the bigger taxpayers to submit their returns in a transparent manner adding that the operations of the accounting firms, which usually deal with the income tax of the larger taxpayers, would come under audit.
“If any firm resort to irregularities then action will be taken against it,” he added.
Replying to another question, the NBR Chairman hoped that around 30 lakh income tax returns would be submitted in the current tax year.
Like the previous years, the new taxpayers would be able to take e-TIN numbers from the fair while the old taxpayers would be able to take e-TINs through re-registration.
Besides, there will be separate booth for e-payment while separate booths will also be there for the freedom fighters, women, differently able and aged taxpayers.
Meanwhile, tax cards and tax honour will be given to the highest taxpayers in different categories nationally for the last fiscal year (FY19) at Hotel Radisson Blu Water Garden in the city.
The taxpayers will be able to submit their returns till 30 November this year.
