Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has rejected an offer made by private mobile operator Grameenphone to deposit Tk one billion dues, reports UNB.

GP’s eegulatory affairs head Hossain Sadat disclosed the information at a press conference at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Wednesday.

He also said they will carry on their dialogue with the telecom regulator.

On 24 November last year, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court asked Grameenphone to pay Tk 20 billion of over Tk 125.79 billion dues claimed by the BTRC within three months.

The deadline will expire on 23 February.

BTRC claimed the dues in 27 sectors from the mobile operator but failed to recover the money. Later, BTRC sent a notice to Grameenphone threatening the company to revoke its licence on 2 April last year.

But Grameenphone moved the court seeking a temporary injunction on the notice which was turned down on 28 August that year. The mobile operator later filed an appeal with the High Court.

On 17 October, the High Court imposed a two-month injunction on realisation of dues from Grameenphone. BTRC later moved the Appellate Division against the order.
