'I'll be in the industry until death'
Nayakraj (king of all heroes) is the title actor Razzak has earned for his dominant presence on the silver screen, especially in the movies made in the 1960s and the 1970s. He has been nominated one of the winners of the prestigious Swadhinota Padak (Indepenhdence Award) this year. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the awards on 25 March.
Razzak, in a tete-a-tete with Prothom Alo and shared his feelings about the award and his life in the industry.
"I can't express my feelings with words. I don't know if I deserve to have this highest state award. I will definitely try to uphold the honour that comes with this accolade," Razzak said.
However, he bagged quite a number of awards throughout his life in the film industry.
"I have received the national film award four times in my life including a lifetime achievement award. I received my first national film award for my performance in the movie 'Ki je kori'," said Razzak.
He received numerous awards including Meril Prothom Alo award and Bangladesh Film Journalists' Association Award.
The hero never ceased to show his gratitude to the film industry of Bangladesh.
"I have come to the fore because of the film industry. I had other options apart from being a Bangla movie hero but I knew acting was my calling. This is why even in my 70s, I am still in the business," he said, adding, "I will be in this industry till death."
Razzak said being an actor is a pride for him. He will always keep in touch with those who have a great contribution to the making of the ' Nayakraj'.
