Popular Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury has played the role of Misir Ali in the film ‘Debi’, which is based on a Humayun Ahmed novel of the same name.

The dubbing of the movie was completed last week while the production is now being given the finishing touch. The film is expected to be released in October. Chanchal talks to Prothom Alo on Monday about the film and other works.

What’s the latest development of ‘Debi’ (Goddess)?
I completed my dubbing last week, but some editing was required.

Debi was scheduled to be released on 7 September. Has the new date of release been fixed?
The movie will be submitted to the censor board once it’s finished and the date will be announced following their approval. There’s a plan to release it in October.

What are the plans for promoting the movie? Are you personally getting involved?
Models will walk on the ramp in a 'Debi' themed fashion show of BishwaRang on 28 October. Trailers of the movie are already being screened on the TV channels. We will soon be initiating some unique campaigns as well.

Are you receiving offers for new films? What is the next one?
I have got about 20 proposals from Bangladesh and Kolkata (India) in the last two months. But none of them worked for me so I did not sign for any.

You had acted in about a dozen of TV drama last Eid. How was the feedback?
Many of the viewers liked them and they shared with me their feeling. Most of the reactions were about ‘Ayesha’, ‘Bhager Ma’, ‘Laag Bhelgi Laag’, ‘Hero Keno Villain’, ‘Charittra: Stree, Tout Number One’.

What are you busy with now?
I could not give time in my regular serials during two Eids. Now doing shooting for Masud Sezan’s ‘Dugdugi’ and ‘Khelowar’ and Sagar Jahan’s ‘T Twenty’, Sakal Ahmed’s ‘Bhadrapara’ and Saidur Rasel’s ‘Ashtadhatu’.

Which is harder - Misir Ali in ‘Debi’ or Ayna in ‘Aynabaji’?
Both of the characters are tough. But Misir Ali is more challenging.

Who do you think could portray Himu the best?
Zahid Hassan, Mosharraf Karim or Afran Nisho. Probably me as well.

What you fear most - a flop movie or a play without a script?
A play without a script.
