A talent hunt programme styled ‘Natun Mukher Sandhane 2018’ (in search of new faces), aimed at finding new artistes for the country's film industry, was launched on Sunday.

The programme, which has the slogan ‘Eso Swapner Shirite’ (climb the stairs of dreams), is being organised by Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association.

The programme was launched at a five-star hotel in the capital. Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith along with the cultural affairs minister, Asaduzzaman Noor, and state minister for information Tarana Halim were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Amjad Hossain, Alamgir, Afzal Hossain, Champa and Jaya Ahsan are among the jury members.

Information secretary MA Malek, cultural affairs secretary Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed and Syed Hasan Imam, chairman of the advisory council to the directors’ association, were present as special guests. 

Bangladesh Chalachitra Shilpi Samity president Misha Sawdagar and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation managing director Md Amir Hossain were also present at the programme.

‘Natun Mukher Sandhane’ was first held by the BFDC in 1984 and it continued till 1990.

A documentary film on Manna, Diti and Sohel Chowdhury was screened at the programme.

Tarana Halim called on the filmmakers and producers to use the BFDC’s locations and technical help for shooting. She said the film industry would prosper and open up avenues for fresh employment.

“We have viewers, but we lack proper environment to watch films. The number of multiplexes should be increased to solve this,” said Asaduzzaman Noor.

Fahmida Nabi and Samina Chowdhury performed in the last episode of the programme while Ferdous, Purnima, Mahiya Mahi, Symon Sadik, Zayed Khan and Achol staged dance numbers.
