‘We are destroying our film industry’

Dhallywood’s dapper actor Ferdous’ latest film ‘Megh Kanya’ was released in several theatres on Friday. Ferdous and Nijhum Rubina appear in the movie as the lead actors.

Ferdous in a recent interview with Prothom Alo talked about ‘Megh Kanya’ and other ventures he is set to work in.

Excerpts of the interview:

Prothom Alo: How is the response to ‘Megh Kanya’?

Ferdous: The first show usually doesn’t go well. The response was good in the capital’s Modhumita cinema hall though.

We couldn't promote the film properly before its release.

Prothom Alo: Why not?

Ferdous: The producer couldn't finalise the release of the film till the last moment. He was targeted by some crooked persons in the industry.

The producer had to go to the court sort out the conspiracies aimed at halting the film.

Prothom Alo: Why is there such rivalry?

Ferdous: We are destroying our industry. Two acclaimed directors and producers were trying to stop the release of ‘Asmani’ and ‘Megh Kanya’, two films directed by newcomers. Instead of welcoming them, they are sabotaging the newcomers just in their own interests. Ultimately such people are ruining the industry.

Prothom Alo: You have been working in joint venture films as well. Tell us about that.

Ferdous: Several people in the industry are trying to demolish that trend too. There were times when so many Indo-Bangla joint production films were made. Those films were fantastic in quality.

Some producers have misused their power and ruined the scope of making joint venture films. There are no regular films in that sector now.

Prothom Alo: We heard you bought a new Audi?

Ferdous: Yes. In fact I am in the car showroom right now with my wife, daughters and mother-in-law.

Prothom Alo: Who would you rank first among the actresses Mousumi, Popy, and Purnima?

Ferdous: Purnima

Prothom Alo: If you get the chance to remake ‘Ek Cup Cha’, what would you change?

Ferdous: I would like to re-edit it.

Prothom Alo: Which is more comfortable- being an actor or producer?

Ferdous: An actor.
