The demise of Bangladeshi rock legend Ayub Bacchu, also known as AB, has stunned the music industry and fans alike. The industry is mourning the death of the gifted singer, guitarist and songwriter.

Like everyone else, AB’s contemporary singer James has expressed deep shock over the death of the maestro.

“He is a legend of Bangla music. We had a healthy competition among us, and that was for bringing good songs. But we didn’t have any jealousy,” said James.

James, another legendary Bangla rock music star, talked with Prothom Alo over phone from Barguna where he was to perform a live concert on Thursday afternoon.

He dedicated the Barguna Zilla Stadium concert to the memory of AB.

“We spent such a long time through our happiness and sorrows. We performed many shows, traveled so many place together. I can’t believe he left us so quickly. I believe the nation will remember him forever for his contribution to country’s rock music,” James said remembering his bonding with AB for 40 long years.

James also said AB was a lion-hearted human being.

“The depth of our relations cannot be articulated in words. We were together through thick and thin in our life. Nobody will understand how much love we have for each other,” he added.

Ayub Bachchu breathed his last in Dhaka on Thursday morning. His relatives said he had suffered a cardiac arrest at his Dhanmondi residence in the morning.

The singer was then taken to Square Hospitals where physicians declared him dead around 9:55am.

A physician at the hospital said Bachchu was brought in around 9:30am, but he had died before he was taken to the hospital.
