Celebrated singer Subir Nandi has passed away while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

He was 65.

He breathed his last around 4:30am on Tuesday, his daughter Falguni Nandi confirmed Prothom Alo.

Subir Nandi, also an Ekushey Padak winner, was earlier taken to Singapore after he had suffered a massive heart attack on 30 April.

Before that, he had undergone treatment in Combined Military Hospital (CMH) intensive care unit for 18 days.

His condition improved in two days after being taken to Singapore but later deteriorated. He survived another three heart attacks during his treatment in Singapore General Hospital.

National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute’s national coordinator Samanta Lal Sen was coordinating the treatment of Subir Nandi in Bangladesh.

“The singer was suffering heart attack repeatedly and that worsened his condition. He had multiple organ failure as well,” Samanta Lal told Prothom Alo on 6 May.

Subir Nandi with his family went to visit a relative in Moulvibazar on 12 April.

He became sick onboard a train while travelling to Dhaka from Moulvibazar. The physicians put him on life support later at the CMH.

Also, the singer was suffering from kidney and heart diseases for long.

In his 40-year career, Subir Nandi sang more that 2,500 songs on various platforms including Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and for Bangla films. His first album ‘Subir Nandir Gaan’ was released in 1981 under the banner of Disco Recording.  

His first song was recorded in 1976 for ‘Surjagrahan’ directed by Abdus Salam.

The singer bagged four national awards for playback singing.

He was awarded Ekushey Padak this year.
