Renowned music director, composer, lyricist and musician Alauddin Ali is suffering from cancer once again. After running tests of Tuesday, physicians said that tumours have reappeared in his lungs and a new tumour has also appeared in his liver. His health is steadily deteriorating.

Speaking to Prothom Alo on Friday morning, Alauddin Ali’s wife Farzana Mimi said that they will be taking him to Bangkok next week for further treatment.

Daughter Alif Alauddin told Prothom Alo that her father’s condition wasn’t good and they may be taking him to Bangkok, though nothing had been finalised.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina in 3 February handed over Tk 2.5 million as a grant for Alauddin Ali’s medical treatment.

Wife Farzana Mimi said, “Alauddin Ali was under treatment from 22 January at the Universal Medical College Hospital in the city and Tk. 1.5 million of the PM’s grant was used to pay the hospital bills. After that he was taken to CRP where another large sum was spent.”

She has Tk 800,000 left with her which was not enough for his treatment, she said, adding that she approached several quarters for assistance and is awaiting response.

Alauddin Ali fell ill on 22 January at his Badda residence upon hearing about the death of renowned music composer, lyricist and music director Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul. He was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties and high temperature where he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). His situation deteriorated and he was put on life support a few days later. His health condition gradually improved and he was finally released on 8 April. He was then admitted to CRP in Mirpur for physiotherapy. He is now at home.
Previously on 3 July 2015 when Alauddin Ali went to Bangkok for treatment, he was diagnosed with cancer of the lungs. Speaking to Prothom Alo at the time, he said that an operation would be too risky as the tumour was too close to the heart. He underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
