Saleemul Huq, director of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), has been named among the 100 most influential people in climate policy for 2019 by the Apolitical World.

The maiden list this year includes politicians, civil servants, academics and activists from all over the world, according to the Apolitical World’s website.

“At a time when young people everywhere are marching to demand action on climate, it's more important than ever to celebrate and support those with the most power to act: the people driving tangible policy change,” the Apolitical says.

It added that those recognised include high-profile advocates whose work is indispensable to raising awareness and demanding change while others are rising stars who are making their mark in local communities and are a driving force behind governmental progress.

The Apolitical World chose the ‘most influential people’ on the basis a few factors those include: The power and potential to affect change at a local, national or international level, including by past achievements that have affected change, feedback from expert nominators, seniority that is significantly beyond expected for someone of a similar age, national and international perception of the nominee’s influence or potential to influence, significant speaking engagements as an indicator of profile in the field and social media presence as an indication of their influence on debates around climate change.

Saleemul Huq is also a senior fellow at the International Institute for Environment and Development and he has been a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
