Rain predicted for Sunday

Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind at many places throughout the country in next 24 hours.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places in Chattogram, Barishal and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy falls at places across the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00am on Saturday,” said a BMD press release.

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country during the period, the release added.

According to the release, the axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and thence northeastwards to Assam across northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay. Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay.

The maximum temperature was recorded 33.5 degrees Celsius on Friday in Rajshahi while Saturday’s minimum temperature 24.0 degrees Celsius at Teknaf in Chattogram division. 

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6:00am on Saturday was recorded 40mm at Mongla in Khulna division.
