Mild earthquake jolts Dhaka

Mild earthquake rattles Dhaka. Photo: A screen grab of earthquake.usgs.govA 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Bangladesh and India on Friday afternoon, said a primary report of United States Geological Survey.

The epicentre of the quake was 16.5-km below the ground from 64-km northeast of Bomdila, a township of Arunachal Pradesh in India.

The epicentre is 499 kilometres northeast of Bangladesh Meteorological Department office in Dhaka and 325 kilometres of Sylhet.

Earthquake observation and research centre’s acting officer-in-charge Md Mominul Islam told Prothom Alo that the mild earthquake was felt in Dhaka at 3:22pm.
