Eight factories fined for pollution

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Sunday slapped Tk 1566,000 as fine on eight business entities in five districts for polluting the environment, reports UNB.

As part of the drive against the environment pollution, DoE director (monitoring and enforcement) Rubina Ferdous slapped the penalty, said a DoE release.

Of the eight entities, three are in Gazipur, two in Narayanganj and one each is in Dhaka, Sylhet and Sunamganj districts. They include chemical, ceramic, paper tech, sugar refinery and pharmaceutical companies, diagnosis centre, accessories and housing companies.

Besides, three other factories -- two in Gazipur and one in Sylhet-- were warned of action in case of polluting the environment in the future.
