The government has formed four probe bodies to assess the damages to the Sundarbans caused by cyclone Yaas—formed in Bay of Bengal and battered the country’s coastal regions and the eastern India on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Assistant forest conservators of Sundarbans will lead those investigation committees, formed by Moyeen Uddin Khan, the forest conservator of the Khulna region.

Most parts of the mangrove forest have become inundated following a downpour, 5-7-foot tidal surge and squally wind triggered by cyclone Yaas, causing serious harm to wildlife.

At least four deer drowned during the heavy tidal surge and two were rescued alive, Moyeen Uddin said.

Mohammad Joynal Abedin, ACF of Sharankhola range under Sundarbans east zone, said, “We are taking stock of the damage caused by recent flooding. Since most of the area is underwater now, it is difficult to ascertain actual damage."
