Pragati Publishers has launched two pop-up books for children to help them make a habit of reading books.

Written by Shirshendu Mukhopaddaya, the books will be available at Ekushey Boi Mela-2019 at Bangla Academy premises that is scheduled to begin on 1 February. Artist Sumit Roy is the designer of those books.

The books titled ‘Nishi Kobrej’ and ‘Kogramer Madhu Pandit’ are based on horror stories that the children find interesting and encouraging.

"Children will find the books interesting for their innovative presentation," Solaiman Parsee Faisal, one of the owners of Pragati Publishers, told the launching ceremony at Dhaka Reporter’s Unity (DRU) premises on Sunday.

Currently, he regretted, most of the children are not interested in reading books due to expansion of the digital media.

Asrar Masud, proprietor of Pragati Publishers, said a number of books of different shapes and types have been published since 2001 to help develop children’s book reading habits.

Cartoonist Ahsan Habib, who was chief guest, said pop-up book is a great innovation of Pragati Publishers since 2005.

“A light will automatically be switched on when kids will open the book Nishi Kobrej,” he said.

Planning editor of The Financial Express, Asjadul Kibria said such initiatives will attract the children to books.
