Please stay at home

The fight against COVID-19 is a battle that we cannot win without the help of the mass public. If they do not act responsible, it will be very difficult for the government to control the situation. Ensuring treatment of the affected and containing the spread of the virus are equally important. The government has extended the general holiday to 11 April, urging the people to remain indoors and maintain social distancing.

However, this is very regrettable that many have turned a blind eye to such requests. Some of them have already started going out, which increases the chances of people around them getting affected by the virus. Every citizen has to realize the gravity of the situation. They need to understand that Bangladesh is going through a difficult time. If they act responsible, we can collectively beat the COVID-19.

Italy is one of the worst hit nations by the virus. On Tuesday they announced that the situation has started improving as social distancing had been successfully observed. In many countries, the authorities enforced a lockdown. We have to understand that the nation cannot save us if we act irresponsible.

The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) has said we are in the second phase of the virus spread. It means transmission at the community level has started. It is happening on a limited scale, but if people do not act responsible the situation may get worse. To bring it down to zero we have to stay indoors and maintain social distancing.

The government offices are closed now, but the staff in the administration and the law enforcement agencies are working round the clock. The experts say this is a very crucial period when social distancing should be duly ensured. Everyone has to act sensible.

The law enforcement has a significant role to play in this situation. They need to ensure that people do not go out without emergency. At the same time, they need to keep in mind that people may need to go out to buy essentials. They, too, should act responsible.
