His actions and ideals must be followed

Today is 10 January; the day Bangbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman came home, freed from Pakistan’s imprisonment in 1972. The countdown of the leader’s 100th birth anniversary begins today.

Sheikh Mujib, the pioneer of Bangladesh was still in Pakistan prison when Bangladesh was liberated on 16 December 1971. The entire nation united stood up against Pakistani forces and freed Bangladesh under his leadership. Bangabandhu was the motivator of the people during the 9 months of liberation war. Pakistan was forced to release him in the face of pressure from world leaders.

Bangabandhu returned to the country as the leader of the freshly liberated nation. It was a return from darkness to light.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founder of Bangladesh, the father of the nation. He, unfortunately, got only three years to lead the country after the liberation. He managed to rebuild the country in that short time and was successful to bring smiles to distressed people by taking up various plans and projects. He gifted the nation with a constitution made on the basis of nationalism, democracy, socialism and secularism.

Sad, a group of misled army men killed him and his whole family on 15 August, 1975 and tried to turn the country against all of his ideals of independence.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s relationship with Bangladesh is deep rooted. The assailants could not create any difference to that. As the days go by, his name is becoming brighter.

He had sacrificed his whole life for the country. He was in jail most of the time of the 24 years of Pakistani regime.

10 January has been observed till date, but the celebration this year is different as it is the year of the great leader’s 100th birth anniversary. The year has been declared as ‘Mujib Borsho’ by the government. Not only Bangladesh, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will celebrate the anniversary this year. Therefore, Bangladesh along with UNESCO member countries and any other UNESCO member can observe the day.

The nation will celebrate the day, different organisations and individuals will observe the day with various programmes and events throughout the year. Apart from celebrations, what we have to keep in mind that it is his ideology and dream that needs to be implemented.

Bangabndhu spent most of his political career to ensure democracy and eliminate discrimination in the country. We can pay tribute to him in the best way by ensuring democracy, reducing discrimination and bringing a smile to the face of the people. His memory must stay alive and his actions and ideology must be followed. We pay our tribute to this great leader of the nation at this auspicious moment of Mujib Borsho.
