The government has decided to connect Bangladesh with another submarine cable, its third, in order to cope with its burgeoning tech-savvy population's hunger for data consumption, according to post, telecommunications and information technology minister Mustafa Jabbar, reports UNB.

Jabbar, now a two-time technocrat minister, said this in his chief guest's address for the VoLTE trial run programme at mobile phone operator Robi's corporate office located in Gulshan.

The minister also revealed that currently the country's total bandwidth consumption is about 950 Gbps, and this is increasing rapidly.

Bangladesh was connected with its first submarine cable (SEA-ME-WE-4) in 2006 and with the second submarine cable in 2017.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) acting chairman Md Jahurul Haque was also present as a special guest.
