Bangladesh ranks 6th among least cyber secure countries

Bangladesh has been ranked sixth among 60 countries for the worst cyber security with over its 35 per cent mobile phones and 20 per cent of its personal computers infected with malware, according to a study.

The study, conducted by UK based research body Comparitech, finds that the mobile phone devices of Bangladesh are least cyber-secure in the world.

Pakistan has been placed seventh in the study while Sri Lanka and India are in the 14th and 15th places respectively.

According to Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers’ Association (BMPIA), around 25-30 per cent of the users use Android handsets while there are 90 million active mobile handsets in the country.

As many as 120,000 units of personal computer are being sold in the country per year, according to the information provided by computer sellers.

According to the study, Algeria is the least cyber-secure country in the world followed by Indonesia, Vietnam, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan.

On the other hand, Japan has the best cyber-security of the world followed by France, Canada, Denmark and United States.

The study recommended that countries should get one step ahead of cybercriminals to keep the devices of their respective countries safe from malware attack.

“Despite some countries having clear strengths and weaknesses, there is definite room for improvement in each and every one. Whether they need to strengthen their legislation or users need help putting better protections in place on their computers and mobiles, there’s still a long way to go to make our countries cyber secure,” the study recommended.
