Defending champions Bashundhara Kings managed a hard-fought 1-0 goal victory over newcomers Uttar Baridhara Club in the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at their home venue at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari on Thursday, reports UNB.

After a barren first half, World Cup-playing Costa Rica booter Daniel Colindres scored the match-winning goal for star-studded Bashundhaka Kings in the 87th minute.

Lowly Uttar Baridhara Club, which were promoted to the BPL football as the runners-up team of Bangladesh Championship League BCL), forced big-budgeted Kings to play goalless till the 86th minute of the match.

Uttar Baridhara Club could take the lead in the 85th minute. Baridhara forward took a powerful long-range shot from outside the box that touched the cross bar.

Bashundhara Kings got the winning goal from a counter attack.

Substitute Mahbubur Rahman Sufil crossed a ball in the danger zone, but Baridhara goalkeeper could not read the ball correctly and Daniel Colindres sent it to the net (1-0).

Bashundhara Kings dominated the match from the very beginning but they had to wait for a goal till 87th minute.

In the last season's league, Bashundhara Kings played 12 home matches and drew only one match against Mohammedan SC.
