Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes said he had to keep patience as the wicket was not easy to bat, reports AFP.

“I tried my best when I went in to bat. The wicket was not easy to bat. I had to be patient,” Imrul was quoted to have said on Sunday after the game.

Bangladesh secured a 28-run victory against visiting Zimbabwe in the first one-day international (ODI) at Mirpur, Dhaka, thanks to Imrul Kayes’ career-best score (144 runs) and outstanding performance from the bowlers.

Imrul, who was declared the man of the match, brought up his hundred off 118 balls and added another 44 off the next 22 balls he faced, AFP added.

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also praised the Bangladesh opener.

“We lost too many wickets early and that put a lot of pressure. But Imrul (Kayes) batted professionally and our bowling was nice,” Mashrafe was also quoted to have said after the game.
