Chattogram honours Shakib Al Hasan
Chattogram City has honoured the world's best all-round cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan, by handing him the keys to the city considering his brilliant performances in the ICC World Cup 2019.
The keys were handed to him by Chattogram City Corporation mayor AJM Nasiruddin at a reception accorded by the Chattogram Jila Krira Sanghsta at the Port City's MA Aziz stadium on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Bangladesh ODI vice captain Shakib Al Hasan earned appreciation from cricket pundits displaying a tremedouns all round performace in the just concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England Wales and became first Bangladeshi cricketer to score 606 runs featuring two centuries and five fifties in addition to grabbing eleven wickets in a single world cup.
But he missed the player of the tournament award as his team Bangladesh only finished 8th, out of 10 teams.
CJKS cricket committee secretary Abdul Hannan Akbar, general secretary of Chattogram Divisional Sports Association (CDSA) and former BCB member Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir and president of Chattogram Press Club and CDSA vice president Alhaj Ali Abbas also spoke on the occasion.
The 32-year-old world number one all-rounder also became the first Bangladeshi to touch 1000-run mark in World Cups.
Shakib created another history with his 1,146 runs and 34 wickets from his 29 matches in World Cups as well.
Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin honored Bangladesh stalwart Shakib Al Hasan with City Key as chief guest on the occasion.
CJKS joint secretary Aminul Islam and secretary of CJKS cricket committee Abdul Hannan Akbar received Shakib Al Hasan with bouquets at the pavilion gate of the stadium.
Later, former cricketer and executive member of CJKS Golam Mohiuddin Hasan welcomed Shakib Al Hasan with bouquets at the reception.
It was Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya who scored 1000-plus runs and took 25-plus wickets in the World Cups as the first cricketer.
In the World Cup 2019, Shakib equalled the record of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar of hitting seven or more 50-plus scores in a single edition of the World Cup.
The legendary cricketer Sachin scored 673 runs with one century and six fifties in World Cup 2003.
Shakib also became the second player in history after another Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh to score a fifty and take five wickets in a single World Cup match.
In the match against Afghanistan on 24 June at Southampton, he registered a five-for in World Cup as the first Bangladeshi bowler.
Shakib touched the fate of most celebrated all-rounder of India- Kapil Dev- who was the only man before Shakib to score a hundred and take a five-for in a single edition of the World Cup.
As per the latest ODI ranking published by ICC on 6 July, the 32-year old world number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan advanced to the 22nd slot from 32nd in batting ranking securing his career-best rating of 692 points.
Besides, he also remained at the top of the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings and the 27th in the ICC ODI bowling rankings with 587 rating points.
The Bangladeshi all-rounder makes his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Harare on 6 August in 2006.
He scored 6323 runs with 9 tons and 47 fifties from 206 ODI matches. His highest score in this format is 134* and average.
