North South University (NSU) and BRAC University advanced to the quarterfinals of the United Group Faraaz Inter-University Gold Cup Football Tournament eliminating their rivals at Kamalpur Stadium in the capital on Saturday.

In the day's first match, a brilliant hat-trick by Mridul enabled North South University to pile up an impressive 8-1 goals victory over State University.

Mridul made his hat-trick scoring goals at 11th, 43rd and 63rd minutes respectively for North South University while his teammates Sadat scored twice and Akib, Anik and Osman netted one goal each.

Sabuj scored the lone goal for the State University.

In the day's other match, BRAC University beat University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) by 3-2 goals at the same venue.

Baktiyar scored twice and Rayhan scored for BRAC while Rakib and Sayon Ahmed scored one goal each for ULAB.
