Gono Bishwabidyalay clinch Faraaz Gold Cup title

Gono Bishwabidyalay beat Southeast University to clinch the title of United Group Faraaz Inter-university Gold Cup.

The final match between two teams was locked in a goalless draw. Following the draw, the match rolled into tiebreaker. During the penalty decider, Gono Bishwabidyalay crushed the Southeast University by 4-2 goals.

The Faraaz Gold Cup football tournament began in 2017. It has been named in memory of Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain, the valiant young man who sacrificed his life for his friends during the militant attack on the Holey Artisan restaurant on 1 July 2016.

News agency UNB adds:

Champions Gono Bishwabidyalay received Tk 300,000 as prize money while runners-up Southeast University got Tk 200,000.

Besides, Russel Munshi (Gono Bishwabidyalay) was adjudged the best player of the Tournament, Bibek Mondal (Gono Bishwabidyalay) named as the man of the final, Shamim Hossain (Gono Bishwabidyalay) was adjudged the best goalkeeper and Mong Marma (Fareast University) named as highest scorer of the tournament

Fareast International University was adjudged the most disciplined team of the tournament to receive fair play award.

State minister for youth and sports Zahid Ahsan Russel was the chief guest in the day’s final and later distributed prizes among the winners.

Lawyer Saifuzzaman Shikhor MP, youth and sports secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Harun-ur-Rashid were also present in the final as special guests.

Earlier, Southeast University reached the final crushing Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) by 4-1 goals in the first semi-final while Gono Bishwabidyalay reached the final eliminating International University of Business, Agriculture & Technology (IUBAT) by 3-0 goals in the 2nd semifinal.
