Bangladesh Women beat Sri Lanka in SA Games cricket opener

Bangladesh Women’s cricket team beat Sri Lankan Women’s team in their first game of the 13th South Asian Games (SA Games) in Nepal at Pokhara on Tuesday, reports UNB.

Bangladesh won the game by seven wickets chasing down the total of 122 which Sri Lanka posted while batting first after losing the toss.

While chasing the total, Bangladesh lost their first wicket in 13 runs when Murshida Khatun fell for eight. But in the second wicket, Ayesha Rahman and Sanjida Islam added 53 runs to set the foundation for a convincing win.

In 87 runs, Bangladesh lost two more wickets. However, Sanjida was firm in the middle and she guided the team to the victory in 18.3 over. The 23-year-old batter remained unbeaten for 51 off 45 balls with eight fours.

Along with her, Fargana Hoque also remained unbeaten at 23 off 18 deliveries. Bangladesh ended on 126 for three in 18.3 overs.

Earlier, Nahida Akter bagged four wickets to wrap Sri Lanka in 122 for six in 20 overs. Sri Lankan opener Umesha Thimashini posted 56 off 49 balls while the other batters failed to impress with the bat.

In the remaining matches, Bangladesh women’s team will play hosts Nepal on 4 December and the Maldives on 5 December, both at Pokhara Stadium.
