The 43rd National Athletics Championship-2020, dedicated to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his birth centenary, begins at the MA Aziz Stadium in the port city of Chattogram on Thursday.

Chattogram city mayor AJM Nasiruddin will inaugurate the three-day national athletics meet Thursday afternoon at a simple function to be chaired by the president of Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) ASM Ali Kabir, reports UNB.

BAF is organising national athletics championship outside the capital Dhaka after 14 years under the sponsorship of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).

BAF general secretary lawyer Abdur Rakib Montu disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the MA Aziz Stadium premises in Chattogram on Tuesday.

Convener of the meet's media committee and president of Chattogram Press Club Alhaj Ali Abbas moderated the press conference where CCC chief executive Shamsuzzoha was also present, among others.

Some 500 leading male and female athletes from 64 districts, universities, education boards, BKSP, BJMC and services teams will take part in 36 events.
