Tamim hits triple ton to break first class record

Tamim Iqbal on Sunday broke the record for the highest first class score for a Bangladeshi when he hit an unbeaten triple century for the East Zone.

The opener became only the second Bangladeshi to hit a triple century in first class cricket on the day, joining Raqibul Hasan in the elite club.

Raqibul held the record for the highest score till the day, his 313 was scored for Sylhet against Barisal in 2007.

Incidentally, Raqibul was fielding for Central Zone on the day and he was the first to congratulate the national opener when he reached 314.

Tamim ended the day on an unbeaten 334, made in 426 balls with 42 fours and three sixes.

He and captain Mominul Haque scored 296 in the second wicket.

The East Zone declared on 555 for 2 while the Central Zone had been all out for 213 in their first innings.
