Speakers at a programme on Friday stressed the necessity of education on reproductive health among teenagers in the country as it would eventually lead to a health-conscious generation, reports UNB.

They expressed their thoughts at the closing ceremony of ‘Project Scarlet: Emerging’, jointly organised by the Bangladesh edition of International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA BD) and the Inner Wheel District 345 (IWD 345), a voluntary organisation run by medical students of Bangladesh.

Medical students as well as principals of different educational institutions attended the programme at Mohakhali, Dhaka.

About a thousand students of seven educational institutions across Dhaka, Narayanganj, Feni and Chattogram took part in the three-month long ‘Project Scarlet: Emerging’ initiative, where they learned about reproductive health through documentary presentations, animations, and role play.

With the theme ‘Reproductive Health Education, for Healthy Generation’, the project aimed at creating awareness about reproductive health and adolescence.

Tahiya Khalil, chairman of IWD345, said, “Learning about reproductive health is essential but for social reasons, our country still has restrictions in addressing sexual and reproductive health.”

President of IFMSA Bangladesh Samira Shafiq Chowdhury, vice chairman of IWD Baishakhi Mendes, former IWD chairman Lovely Bayazid and former assistant director of Feni Sadar Hospital, ASM Tabarak Ullah Chowdhury Bayazid also spoke at the programme.
