ULAB to host Int'l mobile film fest

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) will host Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) 2020 with the participation of around 41 countries, says a press release.

The festival will be held on 28-29 February.

ULAB’s apprenticeship programme, Cinemascope, has organised the event this year.

As many as 202 films from around 41 countries were submitted for the sixth edition of DIMFF from 1 April to 31 October last year, according to the press statement.

Chief executive officer of the festival Rabiul Haque said, “We have three categories: Screening, Competition and One Minute, and we have received submissions in all those three categories. The best film from the Competition category will get 'Cinemascope Best Film' award. Besides that, the best film from One Minute category will get 'ULAB Young Filmmaker' award.”

Independent filmmaker Arifur Rahman is the jury chair of the festival while author and member of The International Federation of Film Critics Sadia Khalid Reeti and Nepal based journalist Devaki Bista are also in the jury board of the festival, the press release adds.

Slogan of this year’s festival is ‘New Generation, New tool, New Communication’.

The festival's adviser Mohammad Shazzad Hossain said, “We aim to spread a message to the young generation that it is possible to make a film with your phone without any cost.”

Last year, 95 films from 34 countries were submitted for the competition.
